The Miranda Magpies have taken out 3 Premierships from a potential 7, in the Grand Final weekend.
The 12E's played a fantastic game, holding 0-0 at the break before a very unlucky deflection created the first goal to Grays Point. Just moments later, a counter attack from a missed shot from Miranda and it was 2-0.
The boys had a fantastic season, making the Grand Final in their first year of competition and played with a great spirit and determination.
Congratulations coach and manager and to our 12E's for being runner up in 2016.
Our second Grand Final saw the Miranda W14D's take on Gymea. Miranda won the Minor Premiership but lost 1-0 to Gymea in the first week.
They played a fantastic game the following week against Bonnet Bay, drawing 1-1 and progressing to the Grand Final.
The first half was tight, both teams creating some chances buy neither could score. Gymea got the upper hand in the second half win a goal and shortly after, put the game beyond doubt.
Congratulations to our W14D's for a tremendous season. Finalists last year and runners up in 2016, it's great to see this team grow and develop, great result for the coach and manager.
Our first Grand Final win of the weekend was from the 21E's, defeating arch rival Lilli Pilli 2-1 in front of a very vocal Miranda crowd at Kareela.
Miranda scored a cracker early and maintained their dominance of Lilli Pilli in the first half. A strong start to the second half saw a great shot at goal, hitting the post only for Mikey to chase it in and put it home for a 2-0 lead.
Lilli Pilli got the luckiest of deflections to see their striker with the ball, shooting low and hard for a 2-1 score, but they just weren't good enough, Miranda dominating the latter part of the game until fulltime, much to the delight of the big crowd.
Congratulations to the coach and manager, who've done a great job. Well done 21E's, Premiers for 2016.
Our second Premiership was achieved by our 12B's, winning 2-1 in extra time in their first year of competition.
Miranda went down in the first minute following a handball in the box shortly after kickoff. They fought hard throughout the game, but Georges River were fantastic in defence and Miranda just couldn't crack them.
With just 1 minute remaining, Miranda scored after a scramble in the box and forced the game to extra time.
End to end play from both teams in extra time, but it was Miranda who scored near the end of the first half, and held on for victory. The coach and manager were thrilled with the effort of the boys, right until the final whistle.
Congratulations 12B's, Premiers of 2016.
Our W18A's kicked off our Sunday Grand Finals.
Facing two time champions Bosco, they were strong in the first half, nullifying all attack and creating a few chances, with the game going to halftime at 0-0.
The second half started like the first, with both teams gaining opportunities to score but it was Bosco who put the first goal home. Just minutes later a handball penalty saw the game go to 2-0 and Miranda just couldn't get a goal in the dying stages.
Congratulations to the coaches and manager of the W18A's for being runner up in 2016.
Our defending Champion W21A's were up next, on the Grand Final arena at Harry Dening.
The girls started strong and scored a great goal to take a 1-0 lead.
On the stroke of halftime, a free kick that Coutinho would have been proud of, skimmed the upright and crossbar and went in for Gymea to equalise.
The second half was a touch open battle, with both teams creating chance but neither were able to put them away. Another free kick hit the crossbar for Gymea but the game was going to extra time.
With three minutes remaining, a tustle in the box saw the referee call a penalty to Gymea, which was neatly put home for a heartbreaking 2-1 loss for Miranda.
The coach and manager are proud of the effort in a strong competition.
The All Age 7's were the final Grand Final for the Miranda Magpies and they did not disappoint.
A completely dominant display saw them as victors 2-0 in an exciting game and a THIRD PREMIERSHIP for the Miranda Magpies.
Congratulations to the AA7's for such a fantastic display this season, taking out the title.
CONGRATULATIONS to our THREE PREMIERS and our four runner up's, 2016 has been an exciting year and we all look forward to an even BIGGER 2017.
